HOSTING in January released public and private cloud services built on Microsoft Azure Pack. The managed CSP said these services enable data and application migration to its cloud platforms.
In January, Mirantis released a new version of its OpenStack distribution. Version 6.0 is based on OpenStack Juno and includes features aimed at networking and storage vendors.
Hybrid IT solutions company Datapipe added GoGrid, a San Francisco-based IaaS provider, to its portfolio in January. Datapipe Chief Marketing Officer Craig Sowell said the acquisition of GoGrid would enable his company to offer customers "the most advanced solutions for implementing and managing big data environments on the cloud."
Google Compute Engine's Local SSD option became generally available in January. Google Local SSD was designed mainly for applications that provide their own replication, according to Google.
Rackspace (RAX) is now offering an in-place upgrade path for its managed private cloud. The Windcrest, Texas-based managed cloud provider in February launched Rackspace Private Cloud Version 10, a new version of its managed private cloud that offers "first-class service with in-place upgrades."
Cloud has become "the new normal" and is transforming how many businesses operate, according to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Senior Vice President Andy Jassy. In April, Jassy discussed the cloud services market, his company's growth over the past year and other cloud topics during his keynote address at the AWS Summit in San Francisco. He also pointed out that the cloud is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) in April denied claims that it was leaving the public cloud space. However, Bill Hilf, senior vice president of HP Helion product management, also indicated that his company is no longer interested in competing against AWS, Google and other public cloud heavyweights.
