Which Internet of Things (IoT) news stories does every cloud services provider (CSP) need to know about? Here's a closer look at seven of the biggest IoT stories of 2015 (so far).
EY's Global Technology M&A 2Q2015 report revealed that mergers and acquisitions deals reached $127.2 billion in the second quarter of this year, higher than any quarter since 2000. The IoT, big data and mobility fueled M&A value and growth during the quarter, according to EY.
Trustwave last month unveiled expanded security services to help manufacturers and business users of IoT technologies "to more efficiently and proactively identify and remediate IoT-related threats and vulnerabilities." The information security company said its new release, Trustwave Managed IoT Security, allows organizations to test, monitor and secure the entire IoT environment.
In May, SAP (SAP) launched the SAP HANA Cloud Platform for the IoT. This platform enables SAP customers and partners "to connect anything to any app or business process in their company and business network," according to SAP.
Cisco Systems (CSCO) in June announced the Cisco IoT System, which "addresses the complexity of digitization with an infrastructure that is designed to manage large-scale systems of diverse endpoints and platforms and the data deluge they create." The IT giant also unveiled 15 IoT products.
IBM (IBM) in March said it expects to invest $3 billion over the next four years to develop an IoT business. In addition, Big Blue noted that it plans to create a cloud-based open platform to help customers and partners build IoT solutions.
Intel (INTL) in June said it would acquire Altera (ALTR) for approximately $16.7 billion. Together, Intel and Altera will provide "new classes of products that meet customer needs in the data center and [IoT] market segments," Intel said.
Microsoft (MSFT) and global IoT platform provider Jasper in July announced a partnership to provide enterprises worldwide with the Azure IoT Suite. Jasper said the Azure IoT Suite will enable enterprises "to bring new IoT services to market faster, facilitate their shift from product businesses to services businesses and rapidly scale."
