Last month, managed services and telecommunications provider Ormuco launched Connected Cloud, a hybrid solution that allows customers to migrate between private and public cloud environments. The Montreal-based company said its solution, which is based off of Hewlett Packard’s (HPQ) Helion OpenStack solution, serves as a means for gaming and other large-scale enterprise organizations to move their cloud applications, services and environments between different environments by spinning up a hybrid cloud instance.
Catbird in March announced that its software-defined security suite is now fully certified for the Mirantis OpenStack open source cloud computing platform. Additionally, Catbird joined the Mirantis Partner Program.
IBM (IBM) announced several new hybrid cloud computing services at this year's IBM InterConnect Cloud conference. These services included an orchestration offering based on IBM's implementation of OpenStack, a Secure Passport Gateway and an API Harmony service.
HP in March unveiled HP Helion Rack, a private cloud solution based on OpenStack and Cloud Foundry technologies integrated with HP server hardware. HP Helion Rack features infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) capabilities, HP said, and provides a platform for developing, designing and deploying cloud native applications.
Citrix Systems (CTXS) became a member of the OpenStack Foundation in April. Nand Mulchandani, vice president of product marketing for Citrix's Cloud Platforms Group, said the XenServer virtualization platform and the NetScaler application delivery controller would be the first products the company officially certified for OpenStack environments.
Cisco Systems (CSCO) last month added Piston Cloud Computing to its portfolio. Hilton Romanski, Cisco's chief strategy officer, noted that the Piston acquisition brings "additional operational experience on the underlying infrastructure that powers Cisco OpenStack Private Cloud."
OpenStack announced the OpenStack Community App Catalog at this year's OpenStack Summit in Vancouver. The company noted that the catalog would serves as the central online repository for its software distribution.
