Huddle Raises $51M in Funding for Cloud-Based Collaboration Software
Huddle has raised $51 million in financing for its cloud-based collaboration platform. The company has raised a total of $86 million of funding to date. Zouk Capital led the financing round, with participation from the Hermes GPE Environmental Innovation Fund, managed by Hermes GPE, and existing investors Matrix Partners, Jafco Ventures, DAG Ventures and Eden Ventures. As part of the deal, Nathan Medlock, partner at Zouk Capital, will join the Huddle board.
Datto Purchases Backupify to Create Total Data Protection Platform
Datto has acquired Backupify, a provider of cloud-to-cloud backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions for software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Datto said the acquisition will allow it to speed up its plans to create a Total Data Protection Platform to safeguard business data that is housed on-premise, in a cloud or within SaaS applications.
Microsoft Azure Government Goes Into General Availability
Microsoft has stepped up its game in the growing U.S. government sector. The company announced the availability of Microsoft Azure Government this week. Tom Keane, partner director for program management for Microsoft Azure, wrote in a blog post that since Microsoft Azure Government went into preview in March 2014, more than 100 government customers and solution providers have tested and evaluated the cloud service offering
2015 Technology Predictions: What’s Coming Down the Pipeline?
As you can imagine, my inbox is filled with 2015 technology predictions from channel-friendly IT vendors. I can barely keep up with them at this point, so we at Talkin’ Cloud are going to do something a little different this year. CenturyLink Buys Cognilytics, Looks to Extend Big Data, IT Services
CenturyLink has added an advanced predictive analytics and big data giant to its portfolio. The Monroe, Louisiana-based telecommunications company has acquired Cognilytics, which provides advanced predictive analytics and big data solutions to mid-sized and large enterprises. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Friday’s Last Word: Ajubeo CEO Chuck Price
Ajubeo CEO Chuck Price founded the privately-held cloud infrastructure services company with Tom Whitcomb in 2011. The company has several programs for the channel including its cloud partner program. Prior to Ajubeo, Price was senior vice president of technology at CoreSite Realty Corporation, a publicly traded national datacenter provider. Prior to joining CoreSite, Price was the vice president at TD Ameritrade Trust Company. He has held C-level positions for the past 12 years at Fiserv Investment Support Services, Requisite Technology, Syngistix and Net Library.

A new IBM study revealed that nearly 90 percent of IT security leaders have adopted the cloud or are currently planning cloud initiatives. And of these respondents, 75 percent said they expect their cloud security budgets to increase or increase dramatically over the next three to five years.
