Which Talkin' Cloud 100 honorees have made acquisitions over the past six months? Here are the transactions channel partners should know about.
LogMeIn (LOGM), a Boston-based remote access software provider that ranked 15 on the Talkin' Cloud 100, acquired identity and access management (IAM) solutions startup Meldium for $15 million in cash. Michael Simon, LogMeIn's CEO, said the acquisition highlighted his company's mission to find new ways to create value for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
Microsoft (MSFT) bought Aorato, an Israeli enterprise security solutions provider, in November 2014. Takeshi Numoto, Microsoft's corporate vice president of cloud and enterprise marketing, said the acquisition would accelerate his company's "ability to give customers powerful identity and access solutions that span on-premises and the cloud." Microsoft's online services division ranked fourth on the Talkin' Cloud 100. It was reported that Microsoft purchased Aorato for $200 million.
Managed service provider (MSP) Logicalis agreed to purchase Inforsacom, a German IT services and solutions company, in December 2014. Logicalis Chief Operating Officer Mark Rogers said the Inforascom acquisition would provide his company with "the perfect opportunity to complement and build on [Logicalis'] offering in Europe." Logicalis ranked 59 on the Talkin' Cloud 100.
In December 2014, cloud and hybrid backup and recovery solutions provider Carbonite (CARB) announced plans to acquire MailStore for approximately $19.8 million. Carbonite CEO Mohamad Ali said acquiring MailStore, a German email archiving solutions provider for SMBs, would help his company expand globally and improve its SMB continuity solutions portfolio. Carbonite ranked 19 on the Talkin' Cloud 100 list.
Oracle (ORCL) acquired Datalogix, a Westminster, Colorado-based company that specializes in data-as-a-service cloud solutions, in December 2014. Omar Tawakol, Oracle Data Cloud's group vice president and general manager, said Datalogix would allow his company to provide data-driven marketers with "the most valuable targeting and measurement solution available." Oracle's cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) division ranked fifth on the Talkin' Cloud 100.
Hybrid IT solutions company Datapipe added GoGrid, a San Francisco-based IaaS provider, to its portfolio in January 2015. Datapipe Chief Marketing Officer Craig Sowell said the GoGrid acquisition would enable his company to offer customers "the most advanced solutions for implementing and managing big data environments on the cloud." Datapipe ranked 33 on the Talkin' Cloud 100.
J2 Global (JCOM) company Excel Micro last month acquired Nuvotera (formerly Spam Soap), a California-based email security services provider and cloud services aggregator for MSPs and value-added resellers (VARs). Hemi Zucker, j2 Global's CEO, said the addition of Nuvotera would help Excel Micro extend its email security services market reach. Excel Micro, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) distributor, ranked 42 on the Talkin' Cloud 100.
