The device mesh consists of "an expanding set of endpoints people use to access applications and information or interact with people, social communities, governments and businesses," according to Gartner. Meanwhile, CSPs that can help businesses connect their devices to one another can empower these companies to better manage their endpoints.
Providing a consistent end user experience across various devices is key. And CSPs that continuously focus on improving the end user experience can find ways to optimize this experience for cloud applications and services.
Businesses produce, use and transmit information via a wide range of devices. As such, CSPs that can help businesses access, store and secure this data ensure these companies can manage their sensitive information at all times.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an "integral part" of the device mesh, Gartner noted. As such, CSPs that prioritize IoT platforms and can incorporate IoT technologies into their business strategies may be able to assist companies as IoT-enabled devices become increasingly popular over the next few years.
An emerging "hacker industry" continues to threaten businesses and their sensitive information, Gartner said. However, CSPs can provide cloud solutions that adapt to cyber threats, ensuring businesses can safeguard their data against malware, viruses and other dangers.
Machine learning allows developers to create predictive models to build smart applications. And going forward, advanced machine learning technologies could help users collect data from myriad sources and discover the best ways to use this information to gain a competitive advantage over their rivals.
Software-based smart machines ultimately could lead to autonomous agents, according to Gartner. And Gartner Vice President David Clearey pointed out that today's IT leaders can "explore how they can use autonomous things and agents to augment human activity and free people for work that only people can do."
