AppSense has updated its desktop-as-a-service/desktop virtualization offering in the hopes of driving more enterprise adoption. With the latest version of DesktopNow, which is a software suite for virtual and physical desktop management, AppSense has added additional support for heterogeneous enterprise architectures.
DesktopNow has been updated to include more support for Microsoft (MSFT) and VMware (VMW) desktop deployments, and AppSense has also extended integration with Citrix XenDesktop. The product also now is integrated with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.1. It also supports System Center 2012.
“The upgraded DesktopNow suite delivers unparalleled scale, flexibility and performance for enterprise environments,” said Ravi Khatod, senior vice president of Marketing at AppSense, in a prepared statement.
Support and integration with other software isn’t the only new element in the latest version of DesktopNow. According to AppSense, the vendor also has improved its policy and efficiency controls to boost workforce productivity. New granular policy controls enable businesses to provide a tailored set of resources and tools for specific user groups so they can be more productive, but without impacting the experience of users in other departments or opening up conflicts with existing corporate security practices.
Interested in DaaS is increasing, and it’s one more area for the channel to consider when building out their cloud strategies. The virtualized desktop market is expected to get close to $3 billion this year—not insignificant by any means.
More players are entering the market, and that means an increasing channel opportunity. Finding the right DaaS vendor for your own initiatives might not be easy, as the choices are many, but it may become more imperative to do so as customers continue to migrate to virtualized desktops.
