Aprigo Becomes CloudLock, Exits On-Premise Security Market

CloudLock

Talk about a potential sign of the times: Data protection specialist Aprigo has rebranded as CloudLock and discontinued all of its on-premises products. Now, CloudLock is focused entirely on Google Docs security, with plans to extend the CloudLock Microsoft Office 365 later in 2011.

In his memo to customers, CloudLock CEO and Co-Founder Gil Zimmermann makes it clear that Aprigo didn’t go away because of low sales. Quite the opposite — many customers and technology partners were big fans of the Aprigo NINJA permission audits solution, he claimed. But there was just too much opportunity in the SaaS productivity market for CloudLock to split its focus, he indicated.

The CloudLock for Google Apps solution is based around giving IT pros and administrators higher visibility into who’s accessing which documents, as well as better tools to transfer ownership and prevent data breaches with active monitoring for any issues.

This is the first TalkinCloud’s heard of a developer entirely abandoning on-premises software for the cloud. But will Aprigo, er CloudLock, be the last?
