At Storage Networking World 2010, NetApp and Asigra are poised to show off live cloud backup. Here are some details.

For those who aren’t familiar with the players, Asigra Inc. specializes in cloud backup and recovery software. They’ve joined forces with the well known NetApp and held hands with JumpPoint, a Canada based data center management company.

The trifecta will demo cloud backup and recovery of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange data at Storage Networking World 2010 in Orlando. According to an official statement:

“IT professionals will perform hot backup data from these popular business applications to the JumpPoint cloud. Application data will then be restored back to the datacenter, illustrating the simplicity, flexibility and efficiency of JumpPoint’s business-class cloud backup powered by Asigra and NetApp.”

No doubt, backing up Microsoft’s on-premises applications to the cloud is a growing trend. Most of the major online backup and business continuity companies have some sort of Microsoft focus, given the large installed base of Exchange, SQL Server and Small Business Server.

The big question: How does the Asigra, NetApp and JumpPoint solution differ from established options on the market?
