In case you missed it, Microsoft and IBM have been waging a war of words on our sister site, TheVARguy.com. The feud started when IBM alleged Microsoft faces tepid demand for some of its software. At least for this round, Microsoft may get the last laugh — thanks to a massive Lotus Notes-to-Exchange migration and managed services deal, won by Azaleos. Here are quick details.According to an Azaleos press release, Azaleos is:
“helping Pentair migrate from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange 2007, and is providing remote management services for more than 8,000 users of its corporate e-mail system, SharePoint Server, Office Communications Server (OCS) and Blackberry devices. ”
Four Key Services
With those goals in mind, according to the press release, Pentair has purchased four remote management services from Azaleos:
Exchange Services: Azaleos technicians will monitor, manage, patch, troubleshoot and fix issues in Pentair’s Exchange environment on a 24×7 basis. This includes managing the Pentair SAN devices, the Pentair Active Directory and backing up the Pentair e-mail system on a regular basis.
SharePoint Services: Similar to above but focused on SharePoint.
OCS Services: A new, evolving Azaleos managed service that monitors the IM/Presence services of OCS for Pentair. It will be expanded to also handle monitoring and management of web conferencing and PC to PC audio and video conferencing.
Mobile Services: A turnkey mobile device management and monitoring service for Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).
Got to run to a flight, so I don’t have time to offer additional analysis. But I will say this: A year ago, Azaleos positined itself aggressively as a managed Exchange specialist. Now, Azaleos spends considerable time focused on managed SharePoint and managed Unified Communications services like OCS. It’s a smart diversification strategy.
