Cloud-to-cloud backup and recovery service provider Backupify is hoping to make managing cloud backups more efficient for IT administrators with new tools and features available in its Spring Release for Google Apps. The SaaS company has several new features in this latest release.
Following up on the Winter Release for Google Apps the company rolled out in December, the Spring Release may earn Backupify a debt of gratitude from administrators and channel partners who use the service. Backup management has come a long way since the days of manually swapping tapes (call me delusional, but I like to think nobody does this any more), but there’s still a long way to go to make it a painless and simple experience. And as more backups get pushed to the cloud, the systems are becoming increasingly complex—even if the cloud makes things simpler for users in so many ways.
Included in the Backupify Spring Release are these new features and tools:
Full domain export that allows administrators to download a full copy of their entire domain. There’s a “nominal fee” attached to it, but it provides admins with a downloaded copy of the entire domain in a more easily consumable format.
Configurable data retention, which enables admins to set a customized email retention period to adhere to different legal retention requirements or simply to meet internal archiving policies.
Batch import of users for ease of uploading lists of users. Backupify noted the feature is effective for implementing employee onboarding activities, as well as for ongoing user management.
Restore and export folder hierarchy to keep users’ organizational structures intact when restoring or exporting an entire account.
Google Sites restore capabilities so admins or end users can restore items back to their Google Sites accounts quickly.
“Features like configurable data retention, advanced admin access control and domain export capabilities—functionality that’s critical for large companies—were all built as a result of listening to our customers’ ongoing needs,” said Rob May, Backupify’s CEO, in a prepared statement.
In addition to the new features, Backupify’s Professional and Enterprise plan subscribers now have access to unlimited storage.
Backupify has long worked with Google Apps partners through its reseller program, and this looks to be another good offering for adding value to customer backup and recovery strategies
