Barracuda Launches Cloud Storage and Share Service CudaDrive

Barracuda Networks (CUDA) has improved its cloud sync and share offering for partners with the launch of CudaDrive on Tuesday. The service is designed for businesses to securely store and share documents across devices, and builds on its legacy file sync and share service Copy.

In an announcement, Barracuda said that unlike sync-only services, CudaDrive’s desktop offering saves storage space by not requiring a file by synced locally to access it. It also hopes to differentiate its service based on its pricing model which is based on storage capacity, not seats.

“We’ve helped many companies back up and protect server data with Barracuda Backup, and now with CudaDrive, we’re able to protect end-user data and provide easy sharing,” Rod Mathews, GM Storage, Barracuda said. “It’s not uncommon that users view, share, and store corporate data from many different access points, whether on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, presenting a challenge for companies to ensure that all of this data is protected. CudaDrive helps solve the common business challenge of enabling access to corporate files from any device, while protecting data stored on those devices in the event of a failure or loss.”

Employees are able to access company data from any device, and new locations can be added with just one click, Barracuda said. Its encryption of data in transit to and at rest in the Barracuda cloud provides enhanced security, according to a statement. The service also includes the option to add an appliance for seamless transition from existing corporate file shares.

“As a Barracuda reseller, we’ve come to rely on the network flexibility Barracuda’s storage solutions offer our customers,”  Rusty Easter, owner, REDtech, LLC said in a statement. “CudaDrive will help us expand our solution offerings to customers to help them protect and securely access their company data from mobile devices at an attractive price point.”

In October, Barracuda introduced a revamped web interface for Copy administrators, and other improvements. Existing Copy for Companies customers will be migrated to CudaDrive.
