Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has opened an online portal devoted to developers, customers and technology partners interested in creating and selling Big Data analytics solutions built on its Vertica Analytics platform.
The vendor is positioning its HP Vertica Marketplace as a hub supplying members with extensions, enhancements and solutions that work with and supplement the Vertica platform, including connectors and third-party extensions, business intelligence tools, Extract Transform and Load (ETL) and data transformation products, connectors and tools for HP HAVEn Big Data analytics platform, and industry and other OEM offerings.
HP didn’t say if it’s charging for membership, but participation requires an HP Web ID.
HP said the site also will offer solutions from its Vertica incubator program. Developer members of the online marketplace will be able to guide future development by evaluating new technologies and solutions springing from the program.
Some new innovations include HP Vertica Distributed R to help overcome the scalability and performance limitations of R programming language; HP Vertica Pulse, a supplement to an in-database sentiment analysis tool to score social data such as Twitter feeds or product reviews, to gauge the most popular topics of interest; and, HP Vertica Place, which stores and analyzes geospatial data in real time.
“Our rapidly growing community of customers, partners and developers are building vertical and horizontal solutions on, and creating new add-on capabilities to, Vertica every day,” said Colin Mahony, HP Vertica vice president and general manager. “The HP Marketplace provides a place where our community can share and market their capabilities to help other organizations and developers fuel further innovation.”
HP said that a significant benefit of the marketplace for members is to use it as a resource to share intelligence. A social interface enables users to engage developers in both the HP Vertica Marketplace and Community with the ability to pose questions, interact with subject matter experts and review previous discussions.
