Boundary, Opscode Partner for Big Data Performance

Cloud and Big Data monitoring specialist Boundary announced the integration of its real-time monitoring platform with Opscode Chef, an open source systems integration framework. With Chef’s infrastructure automation functionality, Boundary claims it can now display changes affecting a customer’s application environment in less than two seconds. The alerts appear in Boundary’s real-time analytics graph, enabling users to respond to issues quickly and ensure high performance for Big Data environments.

According to Boundary, the Opscode integration has three elements:

“Integrating Chef with Boundary provides customers a way to see the effect of any application change — such as when configuration settings are updated — in a continuous second-by-second view,” said Gary Read, CEO at Boundary, in the press release. “The ability to see changes annotated in Boundary’s real-time graph provides a cause-and-effect view that helps customers find developing problems before they become fires.”

In March 2012, Boundary launched its SaaS-based monitoring for Big Data and cloud-oriented applications based on Hadoop, Cassandra, Erlang, PHP, Python, Ruby, Riak and CouchDB. CEO Gary Read told Talkin’ Cloud that the Big Data monitoring opportunity addresses a much smaller but faster growing market, with no real entrenched competitors, unlike the midmarket network monitoring arena that he previously focused on as CEO of Nimsoft.
