Veteran managed services providers (MSPs) continue to branch out into the SaaS and software markets. The latest example involves Compuquip, a Miami-based MSP, launching BrightGauge — a SaaS platform that allows MSPs to show end-customers a simple, readable, but potentially robust view of delivered services.

BrightGauge is the brainchild of brothers Eric and Brian Dosal, and was originally developed for the internal use of Compuquip. But Eric Dosal says that peers in the MSP community suggested the solution be spun out as a white label cloud product.

When BrightGauge leaves closed beta and hits its full release in early January 2011, it’ll only support Kaseya (remote monitoring and management) and ConnectWise (professional services automation) for reporting and automation statistics, respectively — though the Dosals say they’re working on additional integrations with platforms like Autotask (see related story: Autotask Announces New CEO).

As for the solution itself, it generates reports on things like network health and usage on-the-fly, polling RMM and PSA on demand and pulling data from both into good-looking reports accessible from the browser. We’ll be watching for updates once BrightGauge officially launches in January 2011.

Meanwhile, we’re heading from more and more MSPs that are launching their own software efforts. Two prime examples involve Directive launching JoomConnect and Rezitech launching MSPintegrations.
