San Carlos, California-based Burstorm, which provides computer-aided design (CAD) applications for cloud architects, says it has raised $1.2 million from a group of investors.

“Burstorm CAD application for cloud architects is doing for IT what Synopsys and Cadence did for chip design, said Brandon Abbey CEO, Burstorm. “We are proud to have these industry leaders validate our vision and support the team.”

Among the high-profile investors are Jack Finlayson, former president of Savvis, and John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile.

Today’s enterprise architects use Microsoft Visio, Excel and PowerPoint software to design complex, next-generation technology infrastructure. Burstorm says its CAD application allows cloud architects to consider hundreds of design alternatives based on a catalog of more than 750 compute, storage, data-center and network cloud services providers. For the first time, the company says, it allows cloud builders to collaborate in real time.
