May 1, 2011

Nine Lives Media Inc. has added Citrix Systems Inc. (CTXS), CoreSite Realty Corp. (COR) and Red Hat Inc. (RHT) to the Talkin Cloud Stock Index, which tracks the cloud computing market. Citrix, CoreSite and Red Hat replace former index members NaviSite, Terremark Worldwide and Savvis — each of which has been acquired.
The Talkin’ Cloud Stock Index, which rose 2.1 percent for the week ending April 29, 2011, does not make buy, sell or hold recommendations. Rather, the index is designed to track news, trends and financial developments in the cloud computing market. The Talkin Cloud Stock Index also helps VARs, MSPs, cloud integrators and cloud service providers (CSPs) to track the emerging cloud channel partner ecosystem.
The Talkin’ Cloud Stock Index additions include:
Citrix Systems, based on the company’s virtualization expertise, which frequently serves as the foundation for public and private cloud computing projects. Talkin’ Cloud will be attending and covering the Citrix Partner Summit (May 23-24, San Francisco).
CoreSite Realty, based on the company’s experience building and operating data centers across the United States. The company is scheduled to announce quarterly earnings results on May 5.
Red Hat, based on the company’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) and the Red Hat Cloud Foundations business strategies. Talkin’ Cloud will be covering the Red Hat Summit and JBoss World (May 3-6, Boston). Disclosure: I own 150 Red Hat shares.
The index departures include:
NaviSite, based on Time Warner’s recent buyout of NaviSite.
Terremark, based on Verizon’s recent buyout of Terremark.
Savvis, based on CenturyLink’s buyout of Savvis, which is expected to be completed in the next few months.
The Talkin’ Cloud Stock Index is updated each Friday after the close of U.S. markets, tracking the week-to-week and year-to-date performance of 20 cloud computing companies.
