Numara Software has acquired  FromDistance, a cloud-based mobile device management (MDM) solution provider that was recognized by Gartner in its 2011 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management Software. Numera will combine the FromDistance MDM solution with Numera’s service and asset management solutions for midsize to large enterprises.

Numara began offering mobile help desk management in early October, 2011. Going forward, Numara and FromDistance customers will be able to manage and secure all of their mobile devices from all of the major mobile operating systems, Numara asserts.

“Managing the plethora of mobile devices in the enterprise has emerged as one of the IT’s biggest operational challenges, “Numara Vice President of Products Matt Dircks said in a prepared statement. “With the FromDistance acquisition Numara will be the only company providing a single integrated management context across any device, be it traditional desktop, laptop computers or mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.”

Numara is set to launch a new cloud service in November 2011.
