Multi-vendor cloud backup specialist CloudAlly launched a daily backup service for Amazon’s DynamoDB, a fully managed NoSQL database service. AWS has built in redundancy and failover architecture, but what’s missing, in CloudAlly’s view, is the recovery features needed in the event of data loss, either by accident or due to hacking. Their new offering provides automated daily DynamoDB backups to Amazon S3 storage. The company also offers backups for AWS SimpleDB, Salesforce, Google Apps, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail.

“As a hosted service running on solid-state drive (SSD) technology, DynamoDB provides a highly-available, reliable and scalable NoSQL solution with almost zero administration overhead, but lacks critical backup and recovery capabilities,” said Murray Moceri, CloudAlly marketing director, in a prepared statement. “Our cloud-based DynamoDB backup provides the missing link by giving developers the ability to easily activate daily backups for all DynamoDB tables, and then export or restore those tables whenever needed.”

CloudAlly was founded in March 2011 and launched its offerings in August of that year. Its core team of designers and developers is located in Israel, with customers coming primarily from the U.S., U.K. and Australia, with additional subscribers in Israel, Western and Eastern Europe. The company builds services on the AWS platform and all data are encrypted and stored in Amazon S3.
