Cloudera Unveils New Enterprise Hadoop Big Data Tool

Another Big Data analytics product based on open source Apache Hadoop has hit the market. Data vendor Cloudera has announced the release of Cloudera Enterprise, which it's calling "the industry's first complete enterprise data hub solution."

Designed as a comprehensive Big Data platform that allows organizations to store, process, analyze and distribute data with a single solution, Cloudera Enterprise also supports several interfaces for managing and using data, including SQL-based querying, search and in-memory analytics.

Cloudera is offering the platform as a subscription service in three editions, each tailored to different environments:

  • Cloudera Enterprise Basic Edition, the company's generic Hadoop software and support offering.

  • Cloudera Enterprise Flex Edition, which the company says is "for delivering dedicated mission-critical applications built on one premium component of the customer’s choice."

  • Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub Edition, the most feature-rich offering, which includes (in Cloudera's words): "Cloudera Impala for interactive SQL queries; Cloudera Search for real-time text search; Cloudera Navigator for data management including auditing, lineage and discovery; Apache Spark for in-memory data processing; and Apache HBase for online NoSQL storage and applications."

Cloudera is pitching its latest product as a solution to save enterprises from having to limit the types of Big Data they work with and store by prioritizing some data sets over others, or spreading data across different data centers to keep up with volume. Cloudera Enterprise—especially the Data Hub Edition—is powerful, efficient and scalable enough to handle all types and volumes of data, allowing organizations to manage all of the data in their workloads from a single location, according to the company.

Besides contributing a new solution to the ecosystem of value-added Big Data platforms based on open source technology, Cloudera Enterprise will also help to continue driving momentum in Cloudera's partner network, Cloudera Connect, which counts more than 800 members. It will offer integrators, ISVs and hardware and cloud providers another component to build into their systems.
