CompTIA Survey: Cloud Awareness, Investments on the Rise

Specifically, 56 percent of organizations surveyed for CompTIA’s Second Annual Trends in Cloud Computing study said their cloud investments will boost by 10 percent or more over the next year. The study pooled the answers of 500 IT and business professionals in the United States involved in IT decision-making in June of this year, according to the press release.

Director of Technology Analysis for CompTIA Seth Robinson thinks the study suggests that enterprises will be increasing the complexity of their cloud deployments, as per a prepared statement:

Another intriguing facet of this survey is the discovery that 21 percent of businesses have departments — outside of the IT desk — that are increasingly seeking out their own cloud solutions.

The other parts of the survey dealt with the more ephemeral parts of cloud computing: training and confidence. In fact, 66 percent of respondents said they wanted a clearer definition of cloud computing, which is 6 percent more than last year’s CompTIA survey.

Specifically, IT pros seems to want a clearer delineation between SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, as well as a better idea of the differences between public, private and hybrid clouds.

Finally, 72 percent of organizations surveyed said they’re feeling more positive about the cloud now than they were a year ago.

Needless to say, this is all good news for cloud service providers. CompTIA already expects SMB spending to stay strong when it comes to upgrades, and extending that to the cloud is only natural.

If enterprises want to increase the complexity of their clouds, then they’ll probably be looking for a trusted partner. If businesses are looking for ways to increase value and efficiency with the cloud outside of the IT desk, they’ll probably be looking for a trusted partner. And if they’re looking for answers about the cloud, then, well — take a guess.
