To stay ahead of Winter storm Hercules, data backup and disaster recovery (BDR) and business continuity (BC) vendor Datto leveraged its cloud operations facility to monitor weather conditions for partners, the company told MSPmentor.
Datto Support VP Victor Mathieu said in an interview that the company keeps “an eye out for potential storms” at its own facility, which gathers storm data.
“With this data, we can stay two steps ahead,” he said, “which helps us communicate to partners on what crucial steps to take for themselves and their end-user clients.”
Mathieu added that Datto focuses on communicating with partners during winter storms through various measures. “Communication with partners is both simple weather alerts and reminders to test and prepare their Datto solutions, and alert their client.”
“We always stress storm preparation to partners, whether specifically in the Northeast or not, and this impending blizzard is no different,” he said.
Matthieu recommended that partners take the following items into consideration during storm preparations:
Check the status of devices and make sure the screenshots are working properly.
Be sure backups are bootable.
Keep the Datto device with you, if possible.
“Those are only a few key steps,” he said, “but if followed, will save their business from downtime and money lost.”
He concluded that partners looking for a full review of storm preparation advice should check out a video published prior to last year’s Nemo storm
