Doyenz, a start-up in Seattle, Wash., has a rather intriguing business strategy for Microsoft’s Small Business Server (SBS) VARs. The plan involves meshing SBS with virtualization, cloud services and managed services. The result could be a next-generation opportunity for Microsoft’s SBS resellers seeking recurring revenue. Here’s the scoop, from The VAR Guy.
Here’s how Doyenz positions itself:
Built on the Doyenz Automated Virtual IT Platform, the Doyenz Automated Virtual IT service is an affordable SaaS subscription offering that requires no hardware or software investment, allowing IT consultants to build a recurring repeatable revenue stream and grow their profits, while lowering costs and improving service to their SMB customers.
In other words, Doyenz develops a virtualization system that allows VARs to deploy Small Business Server and other Microsoft applications on third-party cloud systems — such as Amazon.com’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).
Doyenz Founder and CEO Ashutosh Tiwary — a Microsoft veteran — says the company’s virtualization system offers several benefits to small business VARs. For instance, the virtualization system can serve as a:
Testbed for small businesses that don’t have the time or budget to maintain a test network of their own.
Backup and recovery system for VARs that offer virtualized services to their customers.
Software migration system that allows VARs to more easily migrate their customers from SBS 2003 to 2008.
Managed services platform for VARs and MSPs to proactively monitor and maintain virtualized customer assets.
Doyenz is betting its entire business on selling the service into VARs and managed service providers. Tiwary notes that numerous VARs are already live on the system. Oh, and one rather intriguing closing point: On the managed services front, Doyenz has some sort of relationship with Kaseya. Hmmm. Stay tuned for more on that.
