Eucalyptus Systems, developer of a widely used on-premise cloud platform, announced its Series C round of venture capital funding. Oversubscribed, in fact, at $30 million, the round was lead by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), with participation by existing investors Benchmark Capital, BV Capital, and New Enterprise Associates.

With this third funding round, Eucalyptus has now raised $55 million in capital. The company plans to use this latest capital influx to foster its product innovation, sales and customer support. As part of the deal, Steve Harrick, general partner at IVP, has joined Eucalyptus’ Board of Directors.

At the end of March 2012, Amazon and Eucalyptus made waves with their partnership announcement, which many — including Talkin’ Cloud — saw as a counter-offensive move to OpenStack, which is available both as an on-premise and a public cloud platform. Eucalyptus also has recently partnered with Wipro Infotech to deliver cloud services in the India/Middle East/Africa region, and with China Electronics Technology Group Corporation No. 32 Research Institute (CETC32), one of the largest IT solutions and services providers in China.
