EVault Backup SaaS Launches on Windows Azure

Seagate company EVault has launched its cloud-based backup and recovery service on Microsoft‘s (MSFT) Windows Azure platform. The offering was designed to provide data protection to cross-platform server data, operating systems, applications and databases while providing customers with the ability to take advantage of the scalability and flexibility of the cloud.

EVault Backup Services for Windows Azure is meant to simplify the backup and recovery of heterogeneous IT environments to the Azure cloud. It offers support across Windows, Linux, IBM i and UNIX, as well as across multiple hypervisors, including VMware ESXi and Windows Server with Hyper-V. Specific to Microsoft software, the new cloud backup service also provides granular restore capabilities for core Microsoft applications including SharePoint, Exchange and SQL Server. It also provides granular restore for Oracle databases.

For partners of both companies that are playing in the Azure world, EVault Backup Services is another cloud-based backup and recovery option they can take to their customers. EVault noted partners can help customers design their roadmap to the cloud and provide consulting services.

One of the selling features for partners and customers, according to EVault, is the ability to reduce licensing complexity and lower costs.

“Integrating our flagship product into this extremely successful platform is an opportunity for us to bring the power of our cloud-connected technology to more organizations around the world,” said Terry Cunningham, president and general manager of EVault, in a prepared statement.

EVault has been slowly rolling out support for various clouds and technologies. In October, the company announced a cloud data protection offering for NetApp.
