F5 Networks (FFIV) is broadening the reach of its services fabric with the launch of Silverline, a hybrid services delivery platform designed to enable organizations to scale IT resources across dynamic cloud and data center deployments.
With Silverline, F5 is providing customers with a services delivery platform that expands its F5 Synthesis architecture to enable application services within customers’ deployment model of choice—from on-premise to as-a-service deployments. The new banner will include security, optimization and availability services from hosted and managed infrastructure.
According to Manny Rivelo, executive vice president of Strategic Solutions at F5 Networks, organizations are looking for ways to cost-effectively deliver applications without constraints. The specific IT components are secondary, with the organizations instead focusing on the overall solution and delivery of the apps, he said in a prepared statement. With Synthesis, F5 is aiming to remove the barriers to deploying and scaling application services.
Included in the kickoff announcement of the Silverline portfolio are a handful of services, including:
DDoS Protection, a cloud security service that builds on F5’s acquisition of Defense.Net. The offering combines on-premise DDoS protection capabilities with a high-capacity cloud service that can use programmable technologies like iRules and APIs for customized performance.
Secure Web Gateway Services, which were designed to protect organizations from threats associated with employee or outbound Internet use. The service was developed in collaboration with WebSense to limit target activities and to encourage productivity while also enhancing defenses against malware, corporate malfeasance and other attacks against networked environments.
IP Intelligence Services, which are meant to make it easy for organizations to incorporate IP reputation and blocking capabilities into their overall web security posture. It enables BIG-IP to recognize and mitigate malicious activity and boost efficiency by filtering out bad traffic before it has a negative impact on IT resources.
The new F5 Silverline services are available now.
