GigaSpaces' New Cloudify Player Designed for OpenStack
GigaSpaces has launched its Cloudify Player testing and development service on its own Cloudify platform, as well as on HP Cloud Services. The service was designed to support OpenStack-based clouds.

GigaSpaces Technologies is has launched a new testing and development service designed for OpenStack-based clouds and aimed at taming even the most complex, multi-tier big data applications. The new service is now available as a free cloud-based services on both GigaSpaces' own Cloudify platform, as well as on HP Cloud Services (NYSE:HPQ).
Cloudify Player is meant to make testing and development as simple as playing a video on YouTube, according to the company. The service's source code is available as an open source project on Github and was developed in collaboration with HP Cloud Services.
Designed to be a lightweight widget, Cloudify Player can be embedded in any website using JavaScript embed code. GigaSpaces noted it embeds similar to a YouTube video. According to the company, Cloudify Player is really meant for open source projects and ISVs such as NoSQL database providers, web framework owners and complete web platforms.
"One of the biggest challenges in managing applications in the cloud is keeping the right balance between control and convenience," said Uri Cohen, vice president product management at GigaSpaces, in a prepared statement. "We have focused on making Cloudify the most open framework for deploying any application on any cloud, while also keeping the user in control over the environment, the stack and the cloud of choice. With the new Cloudify Player we provide both full control and convenience at a level that was previously unattainable, through a streamlined experience from a simple trial to full production deployment."
Database providers are able to use Cloudify Player as a springboard for launching their own products on the cloud from within their own websites. Additionally, they can personalize the tool with their own branding and logos.
According to GigaSpaces, Cloudify Player is a tool that enables vendors to offer customers a "single-click, hassle-free deployment experience for users who want to test drive their product."
