Google Cloud Storage Gateway comes to TwinStrata BDR Solution
March 2, 2012
TwinStrata, the cloud storage provider and backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution provider, has added a Google Cloud Storage gateway. Here’s what the announcement means for current TwinStrata customers.
According to the company, Twinstrata business customers will be able to quickly access the data that they have stored on Google Cloud Storage straight through the TwinStrata CloudArray storage gateway. TwinStrata released the most recent version of its CloudArray solution — version 3.0 — back in November, 2011.
Businesses use the Google Cloud Storage solution to store and access large amounts of business data. So TwinStrata’s new addition is really meant for the enterprise sector. TwinStrata enterprise customers, according to TwinStrata, will now have an easier, on-demand way to accomodate their data growth and meet their immediate archiving, data protection and disaster recovery needs. And since TwinStrata gives its customers the ability to scale its storage capacity, TwinStrata customers will only have to pay for the storage space they are actually consuming.
And speaking of storage space, TwinStrata has also released a free CloudArray virtual appliance that can handle as much as one terabyte (TB) of data. The move is an extension of TwinStrata’s partnership with DataCore Software that began back in October, 2011 when the two companies began merging their storage virtualization and cloud storage capabilities.
TwinStrata’s goal, particularly when it comes to the Google Cloud Storage gateway, is to give its business customers more flexibility and security, along with a faster and more reliable was to access their business data. According to TwinStrata CEO Nikos Vekiarides, Google and TwinStrata customers will be able to save time and money by using the TwinStrata CloudArray to thin-provision their Google Cloud Storage data in just a matter of minutes.
It’s interesting that the TwinStrata – Google deal comes just over a month after rumors surfaced in the Wall Street Journal that Google may launch a GDrive cloud storage solution this year. Does TwinStrata know something?
