Recognizing the opportunity for disaster recovery services in the cloud, VMWare service provider iland has teamed with Acronis, a backup, recovery and security vendor to offer a cloud-based disaster recovery and business continuity solution for small and midsized businesses.

The offering, Rapid-Response Cloud-based Business Continuity, utilizes disk images of virtual and physical machines created by Acronis backup and recovery software, which are then moved into ilands Internet Solution Continuity Cloud and converted into standby virtual machines, according to the companies. If disaster strikes, IT administrators can restore those machines in the cloud via an Acronis management console.

By expanding our existing relationship with Acronis, iland is able to enhance its data protection and disaster recovery solution options,” said Dante Orsini, vice president of business development at iland. Specifically, we are able to provide businesses of all sizes with a cost-effective disaster recovery solution which can be managed from Acronis familiar intuitive interface, allowing our customers to monitor replication, initiate recovery in the iland continuity cloud, and failback to their primary site in a matter of minutes.

Providing our customers with this level of control in a managed solution has been heavily requested by customers and partners and we are excited to deliver,” he added.

Acronis noted that the move by many companies to virtualized and cloud environments has spurred the need for a cloud-based disaster recovery and business continuity solution.

We are seeing a fundamental shift in the consumption model for IT services,” he said. However, in the DR/BC space, many [current] solutions that enable rapid recovery are very costly and difficult to implement and lack the control that customers are really demanding.”

The service, which is available now through both iland and Acronis channel partners, requires the use of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition on their server.
