Intronis, an online backup specialist, is the latest company to plug into ConnectWise’s Professional Services Automation (PSA) platform. The move could give ConnectWise’s partner base easier access to the managed storage market. Here’s why.

No doubt, the software as a service (SaaS) industry is filled with cloud and on-demand storage offerings — everyone from Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) to VaultLogix.

Intronis, meanwhile, has been building a white label partner program that allows VARs and MSPs to rebrand Intronis Online Backup + Recovery as their own. Intronis is backed by OpenView Venture Partners, and Oracle veteran George Roberts plays a key role in the company’s business direction. Also of note: Intronis plays up its encryption and SAS 70 mirrored data center expertise.

By integrating with ConnectWise, Intronis says:

“MSPs have a single, unified view of view of customer backup statistics along with a wide range of key billing and invoicing data.  By managing all of these functions in one centralized, secure location, MSPs can automate their business and provide higher levels of service to their valued customers.”

Sounds Familiar

The integration of Intronis with ConnectWise is hardly surprising. Throughout much of 2009, software companies and SaaS specialists have been plugging their systems into such PSA platforms as ConnectWise and chief rival Autotask. Some ISVs are also integrating with a third PSA option called TigerPaw.

Just last week, ExchangeDefender said it had plugged into Autotask’s Command Center dashboard. Meanwhile, platform providers like Kaseya, Level Platforms, N-able and Nimsoft promote various SaaS and on-premise dashboards for software providers to plug into.

Ultimately, the MSP platform space is starting to look a lot like the operating system market of a decade ago. As platform providers recruit more ISVs, they increase their ability to appeal to the MSP masses over the long haul.
