John Tonnison To Lead Tech Data’s Worldwide Cloud Business

Longtime Tech Data (TECD) executive John “JT” Tonnison has been appointed as the leader of the distributor’s worldwide cloud business, responsible for overseeing Tech Data’s cloud leadership in the Americas and EMEA.

Tonnison, who currently serves as executive vice president and chief information officer for Tech Data, will continue to operate in his other roles in addition to his new responsibilities. He will continue to report to company CEO Bob Dutkowsky as he assumes his new role.

“JT has played an integral role in setting our global strategy and leads a high-performing, multicultural, international organization that has a tremendous depth of experience as practitioners of cloud and hybrid solutions, integration, and migration,” said Dutkowsky, in a statement. “His outstanding business mind and understanding of the IT channel, combined with his understanding of technology and its real-world applications, make him an ideal leader to drive growth in cloud offerings for Tech Data and our channel partners.”

Tonnison began his career in the IT space in the early 90’s as director of Information Technology at Frontline Distribution, a U.K.-based magazine sales and distribution company, according to LinkedIn. He served in leadership roles at several other IT-centric companies until joining Tech Data in 2001 as the distributor’s vice president of Worldwide e-Business. Tonnison took on the role of executive vice president and chief information officer at Tech Data in 2009.
