Lexmark Launches SaaS Version of Print Release Solution
October 21, 2011
Document management company Lexmark International is bringing its enterprise Print Release solution to companies via a SaaS subscription-based model, enabling organizations to cut down on infrastructure and management costs even as they enable mobile users to print from anywhere.
As a quick reminder, Lexmark Print Release is a solution that enables users to send their document print requests to a queue for later printing as a way to prevent printer traffic jams and facilitate tracking of print statistics.
In the official press release, Lexmark heavily promoted the fact that enterprises now have a choice between managing their own, legacy-based on-premises Lexmark Print Release solution or taking advantage of its cloud offering and letting Lexmark’s team of pros handle everything for a monthly subscription.
The other major focus of the announcement is that the SaaS version of Print Release is compatible with Lexmark’s mobile printing solutions, including the Lexmark Mobile Printing App for Google Android and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets. In fact, it includes Print Release e-mail accounts for employees, so even if your organization’s mobile devices don’t support the app, merely sending the file to be printed as an attachment to the appropriate place is enough to add it to the queue.
Finally, according to Lexmark, the SaaS version of Print Release comes with Document Accounting, which is what it sounds like: a solution for IT administrators to report, view and manage print information by user, device and group. And the Lexmark Document Accounting data collection includes information from those mobile devices.
Managed print services are a hot commodity in the channel, as TalkinCloud sister site MSPmentor often reports. But this is one of the first times it’s crossed over into the cloud services market. Is this a sign of things to come? Stay tuned to TalkinCloud for more.
