Media Temple Releases Managed Cloud Hosting for AWS

Media Temple announced the launch of its new managed cloud hosting service for Amazon Web Services customers this week, which will provide customers with round-the-clock cloud engineering support.

The Los Angeles-based web and cloud hosting solutions company said its service is expected to help Amazon Web Service customers gain the expertise needed to get the most bang for their buck from their AWS deployments.

“Our relationship with AWS is a natural extension to Media Temple’s 16 years of expertise architecting and supporting hosting and cloud solutions,” said Brian Kuhn, vice president of Product at Media Temple, in a statement. “Our customers have requested and expect high-performance, cost-optimized managed services. We’re eager to help them unleash the power of the AWS Cloud while focusing on running and scaling their business.”

The offering is expected to provide users with “repeatable SysOps-like services so customers can cost-effectively leverage the flexibility and scalability of AWS without having to source these services internally – or externally.” Media Temple said it would also work with customers to architect new auto-scaling environments on AWS and migrate websites and apps to the platform.

Although Media Temple’s offerings might initially seem at odds with AWS since both companies provide hosting services, Media Temple said the new solution was designed to meet the needs of customers at the high end of the user spectrum, according to TechCrunch.

“The way we are looking at this has a lot to do with Media Temple’s history,” said Brendan Fortune, Media Temple’s product director, in an interview with TechCrunch. “We have our own hosting products, but we have also been putting complex hosting solutions together for our customers.”

The launch of the new offering comes on the heels of a pilot program launched several months ago to test Media Temple’s ability to provide cloud architecture and SysAdmin services to customers, according to the announcement. Media Temple is an Advanced Technology Partner member of the Amazon Web Service Partner Network, the company’s global partner program.

Is this Media Temple program a model that could be followed by other managed service providers looking to help customers with their AWS services? Let us know what you think in the comments.
