mindSHIFT, the managed services arm of Best Buy (NYSE: BBY), is partnering with VMware (NYSE: VMW) to educate potential customers about cloud computing. The mindSHIFT-VMware relationship is the latest indication that mindSHIFT has pushed beyond managed services to offer full-blown cloud services.mindSHIFT, ranked No. 11 among the world’s top 100 cloud services providers (CSPs), is scheduled to host a VMware-oriented Lunch and Learn conversation May 23 in New York. Michael McDonough, a VMware service provider business development leader for the Americas, will be on hand as a guest speaker.
mindSHIFT’s goal is to stir interest in the company’s cloudSHIFT Server offerings, which include:
cloudSHIFT Server: On-Demand – a cloud server that allows customers to build their own virtual servers.
cloudSHIFT Server: Enterprise – here, mindSHIFT deploys, manages and supports an organization’s virtual server environment within mindSHIFT’s own data centers.
mindSHIFT’s cloud services push arrives as parent Best Buy attempts to navigate management changes and intense retail competition.
VMware, meanwhile, is pushing beyond server virtualization and focusing more on VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) and Desktop as a Service (DaaS). A prime example: This week VMware acquired Wanova, a VDI and DaaS specialist.
