MongoDB Open Source NoSQL Database Adds MapR Certification

Open source storage met open source big data this week in a deal between MapR and MongoDB, which announced a partnership to certify the latter’s NoSQL database platform to MapR’s Apache Hadoop distribution.

Specifically, the partnership centers on MongoDB’s “Connector for Hadoop” tool, which MapR has certified for use with its Hadoop distribution. The Connector allows organizations to transport data between MongoDB’s open source database and Hadoop to power big data analytics.

In a statement, MapR said the certification “is ideal for driving many Hadoop use cases including customer analysis, churn prediction, fraud detection, user segmentation and recommendation engines.”

“The MongoDB Connector for Hadoop enables customers to easily move their critical business data between MongoDB and the MapR Distribution,” said Vijay Vijayasankar, vice president of Global Channels and Business Development at MongoDB. “Delivering a production-ready Hadoop option to our joint customers is only the beginning of the MongoDB and MapR partnership.”

The MongoDB Connector for Hadoop is available now from MapR’s App Gallery, which the company launched back in June.
