Need to Consolidate Disparate Cloud Content? Try Primadesk
January 13, 2012
Primadesk has announced that its namesake cloud content-consolidation offering has hit the open market after a successful beta period. In a world where any given user may have as many as 25 disparate online accounts where photos, documents and other data is stored, Primadesk aims to bring it all together into a searchable, manageable, backup-able whole by way of complementary web and mobile apps.
The official press release describes the differences between the free and pro versions of Primadesk better than I could:
Primadesk Free Version provides search and manage capabilities across any 5 service providers. Pro Version also includes the ability to backup personal online content, by folders or albums or the entire account. In addition, Pro Version provides unlimited access to more than 25 online services. Primadesk is currently developing several new features for Pro Version, including single sign on to all other online applications regularly accessed by users.
The mobile version, available for Apple iOS or Google Android, enables users to browse their recently changed files on the go.
While it doesn’t appear that Primadesk has a formal channel partner program as of yet, that same press release includes a quote from Pro Softnet Corporation, a cloud service provider specializing in backup. And SugarSync is offering Primadesk in its app store as a complement to its own cloud storage solution. My guess is that CSPs are going to find some value with what Primadesk is offering, regardless of any real VAR program.
In its own way, Primadesk is serving a larger cloud good: Just as oVirt and its ilk work to keep enterprise cloud workloads from vendor lock-in, this new tool aims to help customers move their data from one service provider to another by acting as middleman. I admit, I’m intrigued.
