New Data Shows Cloud Services Offer Freedom, Scalability and Innovation in IT

Cloud computing, at its core, is deployed by enterprises looking to increase flexibility, productivity and cost savings over legacy systems. More and more companies that look to outsource IT functions have turned to the cloud–more specifically, cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS)–to automate and virtualize computing functions. According to a recent cloud computing report, 93 percent of organizations surveyed are running applications or experimenting with IaaS. The value to customers is a positive ROI when choosing a solution to address their IT challenges, while increasing the aforementioned key business objectives.

A recent infrastructure as a service customer survey conducted by TechValidate, on behalf of NaviSite, aimed to better understand how cloud deployments have made an impact on businesses. The survey provided insight into key IaaS use cases, results and trends from customers in the cloud, including:

  • Cloud helps refocus IT team on innovation: Cloud computing and managed cloud solutions, like our NaviCloud offering, are deployed to enable IT teams to allocate more time to other aspects of business innovation, rather than spending hours attending to routine IT infrastructure maintenance tasks. The survey revealed that 66 percent of NaviCloud users polled agree that their IT staff was able to focus more of their time on business-critical objectives after switching to the service. When IT infrastructure is outsourced, the IT staff can turn their attention to more strategic, business-critical goals.

  • Scalability is a coveted quality: Scalability is another point that is often cited as a benefit of a well-implemented cloud solution. For example, data demands can change with many factors facing the business, and businesses need a flexible IT model to manage this ever-changing influx of information. With managed cloud services, the ability to scale cloud services is simple. Businesses can expand or decrease their cloud footprint without the hassle and CapEx or deploying new networking equipment on premises. According to the survey, nearly 50 percent of respondents benefited from increased scalability after transitioning workloads to the cloud.

  • Security remains top barrier for adoption: Security remains as one of the top barriers to entry in transitioning additional workloads to the cloud, with 38 percent of survey respondents listing it as their top concern, followed by virtualization of legacy applications, loss of control of critical apps, budgetary concerns and, lastly, compliance requirements. While cloud security remains a key concern, building in additional layers of security, compliance regulations and a continued effort to protect data in any environment are helping to ease worries.

As we continue to glean insights from working with TechValidate, the NaviSite team will keep learning from valuable customer feedback to continue to develop solutions that meet the needs of our NaviCloud customers. Thank you to all our customers that participated in our survey; your opinions matter to our business.
