Nimble Storage Courts Enterprise users with Adaptive Flash Platform

Flash storage solutions company Nimble Storage (NMBL) unveiled its new Adaptive Flash platform to enable enterprises to meet performance and capacity requirements for their workloads housed in virtual data centers and cloud environments.

According to Nimble, the platform combines the speed of flash-only arrays and the storage capacity of hybrid arrays with the company’s upcoming CS700 Series arrays and All-Flash Shelf to provide up to 64TB of flash and a petabyte of capacity, ultimately allowing users to consolidate all of their workloads into one platform.

With the Adaptive Flash Platform, Nimble believes it can eliminate the need for multiple storage silos and help users consolidate their storage into one location. The Adaptive Flash platform dynamically allocates a user’s storage resources to meet application demands on a single device, thereby freeing up physical office space for users. The Adaptive Flash is based on the company’s Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout architecture (CASL) and Infosight, its automated cloud-based management and support system to give users the ability to quickly and easily manage their performance speeds and utilize the system’s integrated data protection and predictive support capabilities.

“Today’s hybrid and flash-only products force enterprises to create storage silos, resulting in increased costs and management complexity. Our Adaptive Flash platform will demand the storage industry rethink the way flash can be leveraged within datacenter and cloud environments,” said Dan Leary, vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Nimble Storage, in a statement. “We’ve built a solution that can span a larger set of workloads with more performance and cost efficiency than any other flash solution on the market.”

According to Nimble, one of the main goals when designing the Adaptive Flash platform was to integrate the new system with InfoSight to help recommend the exact amount of resources required as application demands change within a particular enterprise. By maintaining and monitoring the amount of needed space on a per-situation basis, Adaptive Flash is able to avoid problems such as over-provisioning a system or incurring increased costs by overworking the flash environment.

While the Adaptive Flash platform is available now, Nimble expects the CS700 Series array and the All-Flash Shelf to be available later this month. An exact release date or pricing point has not been announced for either item.
