NTT Communications is joining the growing desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) market in the United States. The Tokyo-based company has launched its Enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure virtual desktop service into the U.S. market.
The global technology company is targeting enterprises with its DaaS offering, providing cloud-based access to office desktop environments. With the launch of the service in the United States, it also means the launch of servers and other infrastructure to support the service within the United States.
Enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is linked to Arcstar Universal One to provide fast, free connection to cloud infrastructure. A customer portal was designed to simplify the addition of new accounts and creation of operating system images. According to NTT, virtual desktops can be used as much and as often as needed.
The service incorporates Citrix Systems‘ XenDesktop, which NTT noted means screen transfers don’t leave data in the user’s device, providing end users with the ability to use whatever device they choose safely.
“Incorporation of XenDesktop in NTT Com’s Enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure will enable U.S. companies to better satisfy their global computing needs,” said Mitch Parker, vice president and general manager of Citrix Cloud Services at Citrix Systems, in a prepared statement. “The combination of industry-leading desktop virtualization technology with U.S.-based cloud service platforms will ensure that customers worldwide can use desktop virtual environments safely on a highly flexible and expandable service platform.”
According to NTT, the U.S. launch is only the beginning for global expansion. The company plans to launch the DaaS offering in Europe and throughout Asia, but it also has plans to enhance the customer portal with additional functionality.
NTT joins what is becoming a busy space.
