SOA Software, a provider of SOA governance, cloud and API management products, announced the addition of enterprise application program interface (API) features to its Atmosphere suite of products with the goal of enabling business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-employee (B2E) applications.

According to SOA Software, APIs are business opportunities for companies and partners, beyond a means for business efficiency, to enable more “sensitive” B2B and B2E apps. SOA’s services provide a foundation for building enterprise APIs and adding documentation, support, access provisioning, and quality-of-service (QoS) management.

SOA’s updates to Atmosphere include the following API capabilities:

  • Private APIs: API owners on Atmosphere can mark APIs as private so it can only be found and viewed by invited users.

  • Groups: Atmosphere enables customers to designate groups for access to their APIs. There also are capabilities for providing different groups with “contextual discussion forums,” allowing users to post questions, comments and get support. The forums can be either private or public.

  • Teams: These are app development or API teams — defined teams of users who share responsibilities for administering or accessing an API or app, thus enabling the kind of collaboration needed for enterprise application development.

  • User and Role Management: Atmosphere permits a user to have multiple roles depending on their context. i.e. the API or App they are working with, also allowing administrators to delegate responsibility for certain tasks with other users.

Last month SOA Software announced its products could be deployed as VMware images, enabling customers to deploy and migrate governance solutions within and across their enterprise. It then joined VMware’s Technology Alliance Program, which certifies the successful deployment of all of its products on VMware vSphere virtual machines.
