Virtela, which claims to be the world’s largest independent cloud services provider, has partnered with India-based Aircel. Together, the companies plan to offer India’s first global cloud-based application acceleration service for the enterprise space. We’re curious to see if this is a sign of things to come in North America, Europe and elsewhere.

According to a joint statement from Aircel and Virtela, the global acceleration service will provide Indian enterprise companies with the following benefits:

  • Up to five to 25 times faster access to overseas business partners, branch offices and data centers;

  • no upfront capex requirements to gain 80 percent cost savings; and

  • access to India’s first flexible, per-hour pricing model for enterprise network services that starts at 50 cents per hour.

Aircel will leverage Virtela’s Enterprise Services Cloud (ESC) and 50 Local Cloud Centers (LCC’s) in order to deliver end-to-end managed services to Aircel’s 55 million subscribers throughout 190 countries. Virtela released its ESC solution in June 2010.

Aircel chose Virtela’s ESC cloud infrastructure because it is built specifically for enterprise networking, security and mobility. As a result, Aircel customers can add enterprise networking, security and mobility to improve the performance of their business communications. The Virtela ESC also virtualizes acceleration devices within the cloud, eliminating the need for Aircel clients to purchase hardware, the companies claim.

Virtela has been working on a range of managed services offerings. Back in April 2011, the company announced a mobile device management (MDM) solution to protect smartphones and tablets; it costs $5 per device per month.
