Vyatta and Cloud.com Partner for Cloud Networking, Security
May 9, 2011
Vyatta, which bills itself as an open source competitor to Cisco Systems, and Cloud.com, which provides scalable IaaS platforms for the MSP community, have partnered up to provide customers with advanced connectivity and security for cloud infrastructure. The two companies are billing it as a way for service providers to automate and manage complex networks in the cloud with the same kind of security and compliance as a legacy system.
According to the press release, Vyatta’s cloud-ready network operating system and the Cloud.com CloudStack infrastructure platform are natural fits for each other. Cloud providers can set up their cloud instances and configure security policies to isolate applications and customers easily.
The actual security features introduced by this partnership include “Layer 2 cloud bridging, intrusion prevention, and N-tier network management in addition to stateful firewalling, IPSec and SSL-based VPN and secure web filtering,” according to that same press release.
This isn’t the first time in 2011 that Vyatta’s aligned itself with a cloud platform; in February, Vyatta Network OS brought this same kind of security to Carpathia InstantOn.
