What does the future hold for workspace-as-a-service (WaaS)? Here are seven WaaS trends that every managed service provider needs to watch.
Cloud adoption is becoming increasingly important for businesses of all sizes. In fact, market research firm Synergy Research Group pointed out cloud operator and vendor revenues reached $110 billion during the four quarters between Q4 2014 and Q3 2015. Also, cloud services provider (CSP) nGenx noted leveraging cloud computing in conjunction with WaaS "enables organizations to reduce the capital expense of upgrading and migrating operating systems and applications."
The global disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS) market could expand at a compound annual growth rate of 36 percent between 2014 and 2022, according to market research firm Transparency Market Research. However, nGenx noted that many DR strategies do not account for workspace users due to cost, a trend that could change in the future. "Many organizations are turning to WaaS as an affordable, easy way to ensure uptime, whenever or wherever a disaster takes place," nGenx said in a prepared statement.
Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) has become essential for many organizations. As such, the increasing adoption of BYOD could drive the WaaS market's growth, according to market research firm MarketsandMarkets.
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) may lack the resources of a major corporation, but many of these companies could target WaaS because it simplifies desktop app management. MarketsandMarkets also pointed out "easy management" has led to the increasing adoption by enterprises and SMBs worldwide.
IT security remains crucial for organizations. And nGenx noted that WaaS addresses many organizations' IT security concerns because it delivers "more rigid controls, granular user management, customized reporting and audit trails."
Unless you're an auditor, you may not think very often about compliance. But as regulation continues to increase steadily across the channel, so do compliance needs, which often entail collecting new types of information and storing it for fixed periods of time — sometimes permanently. That means more data.
Many IT professionals are under pressure to reduce their operating costs. But with WaaS, organizations can spin up new virtual desktops for users on any device and reduce an organization's capital expenses, Global Industry Analysts said.
