As the onslaught of MDM solutions evolve, new players are popping up in the marketplace, too. This time it is Xerox, with a new cloud service designed to provide companies big or small with a way to get their arms around mobile device management woes. Here’s the quick details…

Xerox, like many other companies, is grappling with the “complexity and cost constraints” that come with a increasingly mobile workforce. Enter: Xerox’s expanded portfolio of business cloud services: Cloud-based mobile device management.

Xerox didn’t rattle off a long list of features, but the cloud technology is designed to manage “virtually every type of mobile device,” with a price tag that’s comfortable for the smallest SMB to the largest enterprise. Xerox believes their solution will differentiate because it’s “secure, simple and cost effective,” although included features seem standard, like remote administration and wiping capabilities.

While this cloud service comes directly from Xerox, it actually incorporates BlackBerry, iOS and Android management capabilities from Xerox partner Boxtone. Boxtone is known for its automated enterprise mobile management technology, so it was a natural fit to work with Xerox.

As more companies look to outsource IT, you can be sure MDM will be wrapped up inside those ITaaS offerings, too. We’ll keep watch as other big name vendors add cloud, ITaaS and mobile services to their portfolio.
