In the United States, Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. It’s the Friday after Thanksgiving, and it’s when almost every major retailer provides limited-run-crazy-discount items that are normally more expensive. Needless to say, most people do their holiday shopping that time. So what would Google have to do with Black Friday? Why, it would make the perfect day to launch a tablet computer that’s been hyped up and rumored, wouldn’t it? Here’s the quick details on some sketchy rumors…

Of dubious reliability, DownloadSquad claims to have an inside source who exposed the very (limited) details of the fabled Google Chrome OS tablet.

Yes, our source tells us that Google is building a Chrome OS tablet. It’s real, and it’s being built by HTC. No surprise there, since HTC churned out the Nexus One for Google…[and] they plan to offer it in conjunction with Verizon…[on Black Friday].

The author (Lee Mathews) speculates that Verizon and Google’s sudden buddy-buddy statement on Net Neutrality is the reason for the carrier’s attachment to the tablet. Mathews also claims if the rumor proves true, Verizon may even offer the tablet free subsidized with a unique data plan. Bunk, I say.

Mathews also speculates on the hardware, but he makes it clear that his source didn’t give him a single hint about what would be in the package, so I won’t even bother repeating it here. I’ve got my fingers crossed for limited edition version dipped in gold. Maybe a built in Blu-Ray. Maybe a Blu-Ray player that only plays gold-dipped Blu-Rays.

I hope it prints money, too.

So will we see a Chrome tablet this soon? Don’t count on it. If Google is looking for a November launch of this thing, we’d hear more whispers overseas (like we do with Apple products) on the on going manufacturing. Is it coming at some point? I’d bet my bank account on it. Just not this holiday season. But you can be sure Google will be butting heads with Apple in every technology niche they can.
