PC giant Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) announced the new ProLiant DL580 Generation 8 server, designed to improve performance for data-intensive workloads with advanced reliability and low return on investment, according to the company.
The ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server is based on the Intel (INTC) Xeon E7-8800/4800v3 processor, which offers high performance coupled with a 45 percent reduction in total cost of ownership, HP said. It utilizes HP’s Advanced Error Recovery for proactive fault isolation and HP Memory Quarantine for a reported 30 percent greater memory and processor reliability.
This latest ProLiant server is powered by the HP ProActive Insight architecture, which allows it to continuously analyze thousands of system parameters to enhance application performance, HP said in the press release. Overall, the servers are expected to improve the availability and stability of virtualized environments for enterprise users.
“Organizations demand extremely fast business application performance in order to keep up with today’s hyper connected world,” said Ric Lewis, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Server Business at HP, in a prepared statement. “Two years ago, HP announced Project Odyssey to meet these challenges and redefine the future of mission-critical computing with a development roadmap that makes mission-critical on x86 a reality while furthering the company’s investment in established mission-critical solutions. Today’s announcement continues to build on this promise of dramatic performance improvements at substantial efficiencies.”
HP topped off its Gen8 server announcement with news of several updates to the HP ProLiant DL560 and BL660c Gen8 servers as part of the company’s scale-up to x86 program. The updates will include new performance and scalability features that will further extend their capabilities, according to HP.
HP is offering the DL580 Gen 8 for $13,079, while the announced enhancements to the ProLiant DL560 and BL660c Gen8 servers are expected to launch in March.
