HP Previews First All-in-One Mobile PC, Other AIO Wares

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) rolled out what it’s calling its first all All-in-One mobile PC, the HP Envy Rove20, which the vendor positioned as freeing the desktop PC from the desk, undoubtedly because it looks and operates like a hinged, ultra-oversized tablet and is priced for the value-conscious customer.

At the HP blog, The Next Bench, the Rove20 was described as looking “like a larger-than-life-sized tablet,” but not quite suitable for playing pinball. The unit is chief among a bevy of new, reasonably priced, touch-enabled, Windows 8-equipped Pavilion and Envy laptops the vendor is unwrapping to flesh out its portfolio.

The Rove20, which won’t begin selling until July at a still undetermined price, converts from an upright position to lying flat on a tabletop by using a hydraulic hinge, enabling it also to occupy a variety of angles, according to HP. The unit is powered by a 4th generation Intel (INTC) Core processor, runs Windows 8 apps, features a 20-inch 1,600×900 IPS LED display for wide viewing angles, offers Intel HD graphics, 10-point touch and a built-in battery that lasts about 3.5 hours. It weighs in at a hefty 12 pounds.

HP did not provide an abundance of details on the Rove20 and is said to be waiting until closer to launch to list its full complement of features. One tidbit it did let out, however, is a new promotion for buyers of HP Envy or Spectre PCs for 50GB of free cloud storage through Box.net, available only in the Americas. A Box.net app is included on every new Envy or Spectre PC.

HP also rolled out two traditional All-in-One PCs, the Pavilion 20 TouchSmart and the Pavilion 23 TouchSmart aimed at value-driven customers. The latter unit features a 23-inch diagonal full HD display. The Pavilion 23 TouchSmart is slated to be available on June 5, priced at $749.99, while the Pavilion 20 TouchSmart is slated to go on sale in the United States June 26 at $619.99.

In addition, the vendor unveiled the Pavilion 11 TouchSmart notebook, running Windows 8 and featuring an 11.6-inch, 10-point capacitive touch screen, positioning it as the most affordable HP touch-enabled notebook. It is planned to go on sale in the United States June 26 priced at $399. The HP Pavilion 14 TouchSmart Sleekbook, yet another value unit, is slated to be available in the United States June 26, priced at $479.99.

HP also offered two new printers, the Envy 4500 and 5530 e-All-in-Ones, which offer mobile printing solutions via HP wireless direct and HP ePrint. The Envy 4500 e-All-in-One are scheduled to be available in the United States June 17, priced at $99, while the Envy 5530 e-All-in-One is slated to go on sale July 1 at $129.
