Lenovo Plans Tablet Update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich
February 10, 2012
Toward the end of 2011, I reviewed Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet favorably, finding it was one of the most well-desgined business tablets in its class. Lenovo is announcing that very same ThinkPad Tablet will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But is there more in store?
Lenovo has set the delicious Android upgrade for a spring 2012 launch, so don’t get too excited yet. However, Lenovo promises it will deliver, since the company is “committed to making their tablets ‘future proof.'” That’s something refreshing to hear from a tablet vendor, since oftentimes “older” Android devices are left on the wayside as newer Android devices replace them. It’s also good form for Lenovo, which traditionally has focused in on providing business individuals with a reliable experience.
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the ThinkPad Tablet promises to bring browser enhancements, expanded voice dictation and facial recognition technology for unlocking the device. Current owners also will be happy to know the upgrade will happen over-the-air, meaning an uncomplicated series of taps will send them into upgrade-land painlessly. Lenovo recommends anyone more curious about the update visit its tablet page for more info, which, according to the company, should be coming shortly.
