Veeam Upgrades MP v7 for Hyper-V and vSphere Visibility

Veeam Software announced this week that its Veeam Management Pack (MP) v7 for System Center will add support for Microsoft Hyper-V. The new version integrates fully with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and essentially provides end-to-end visibility for both Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere layers. Version 7 also enhances visibility for the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure that protects a business’s critical Hyper-V and VMware environments, making it useful no matter which hypervisor is preferred.

"We're adding Hyper-V support in this major new release of the Veeam Management Pack so enterprise IT has complete visibility of their critical virtual systems, can mitigate risks, and proactively monitor Hyper-V and vSphere, from Microsoft System Center's single console," said Ratmir Timashev, CEO of Veeam, in a prepared statement.

Veeam MP automatically ingrates Microsoft System Center Operations Manager’s native monitoring of applications to display virtual infrastructure dependencies, according to the press release. Additional drill-down capabilities from app-to-metal within compute, storage and network topology maps are expected to give IT admins the tools they need to quickly fix problems that could disrupt business flow and productivity.

"A business's ability to clearly see and understand its virtual environment is critical for making informed business decisions that drive uptime, planning and growth," said Cameron Fuller, a principal consultant for Catapult Systems, a Veeam ProPartner. "System administrators need the deep insights that Veeam Management Pack provides for both Hyper-V and vSphere environments."

The new version is expected to hit shelves sometime in July, but an exact release date for MP v7 has not been announced.  Veeam is currently offering a public beta for the new management pack on its website, and will also be providing live demos of MP v7 during this week’s Microsoft TechEd North America conference in case you want to check out the new Hyper-V functionality in person.
