Virtustream Adds Enterprise Risk Management, OpenStack to CMP

Cloud software and services provider Virtustream announced the latest version of the xStream 3.0 cloud management platform (CMP) software this week, as the company continues to help remove the barriers to entry for cloud adoptees.

With xStream 3.0, Virtustream aims to reduce the cost of cloud migration and management while giving users increased security and compliance. The release of version 3.0 also cements Virtustream as one of the only enterprise-class cloud provider to extend high SLA support for OpenStack, essentially allowing users to run and manage both VMware (VMW) and OpenStack workloads within the same xStream user interface.

Virtustream’s latest CMP was built specifically for enterprise, government and service provider customers that want to run their production applications in the cloud, according to the company. The new software includes Enterprise Risk Management capabilities in addition to its support for OpenStack, enabling users to monitor and control their data via features such as chip-level geo-fencing and compliance and vulnerability monitoring.

xStream 3.0 was designed from Virtustream's own infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud, essentially creating a common cloud management solution for both private cloud users and leading CSPs, the company noted.

“Hybrid cloud environments are the future of enterprise computing, but moving to the cloud is a complex transition,” said Van Williams, CIO and chief of Product Engineering at Virtustream, in a prepared statement. “The xStream CMP software allows enterprises to manage and run any mix of legacy applications and new open source applications within a single cloud environment with ease and efficiency.”

In addition to its Enterprise Risk Management and OpenStack support functionality, Virtustream said xStream 3.0 is the industry’s first CMP software to allow resources to be tagged and monitored for geolocation. The software’s new application management framework, xStream AppDirector, allows for streamlined integration in the cloud for packaged and custom applications, with multiple options for user control at the application level directly from the xStream Cloud Management Portal. Virtustream also has included a new analytics engine to help users optimize their cloud environments by consolidating workloads onto fewer machines, helping to reduce power usage and decreasing infrastructure costs.

Virtustream xStream 3.0 is slated to ship in July, and will be available as private cloud software for enterprise and government customers as well as in public cloud software form. The company also plans to release xStream 3.0 as a managed IaaS service for its global customer network.
